Buffalo, New York – Light snow that developed before dawn across western and north-central New York is winding down early Sunday, but lake effect snow showers will continue to bring localized impacts through the afternoon and early evening, mainly southeast of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, widespread snow will end early this morning, transitioning to more scattered lake effect bands. Most areas will see less than an inch of additional accumulation today, though a few localized spots could pick up a couple inches where bands persist the longest.

Southeast of Lake Ontario, including areas near Rochester and parts of the western Southern Tier, lake effect snow showers may produce localized accumulations of 1 to 3 inches. Off Lake Erie, the higher terrain of the Chautauqua Ridge and Boston Hills could see an additional 1 to 2 inches under the most persistent bands.

Road conditions may vary significantly over short distances, with brief reductions in visibility possible during heavier snow showers. While major impacts are not expected, untreated roads and secondary routes could remain slick at times, especially during the morning and midday hours.

Snow showers are expected to gradually weaken later this afternoon and early evening as lake influence diminishes. Drivers are urged to use caution in lake effect prone areas and allow extra time when traveling. Conditions should continue to improve tonight as snow activity tapers off across the region.
