Buffalo, N.Y. – A frost advisory will take hold across parts of upstate New York overnight, with temperatures dropping into the low to mid-30s between 12 a.m. and 9 a.m. Thursday. Sensitive plants and late-season crops face a risk of damage if left uncovered.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, the advisory includes Oswego, Jefferson, Cattaraugus, and Allegany counties, with areas around Watertown, Oswego, Olean, and Wellsville most likely to see frost development. The coldest air is expected in sheltered valleys and rural locations where temperatures may dip just below freezing.

Residents are urged to protect vulnerable plants by covering them or bringing them inside before midnight. Gardeners, farmers, and vineyard operators in particular should take precautions to avoid losses from the sudden cold snap. Drivers in rural areas should also be aware of reduced visibility in low-lying frost-prone valleys early Thursday morning.

The advisory is scheduled to expire at 9 a.m. Thursday, though forecasters say additional frost events remain possible as cool, dry nights continue into the weekend.
