Buffalo, NY – Cold mornings will continue to grip western New York through midweek, with freezing temperatures creating slick early-day conditions before a steady warmup pushes highs near 50°F by the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, daytime highs will remain in the low to mid-30s Wednesday across Buffalo, Batavia, and Rochester, while overnight lows drop into the teens and 20s, increasing the risk of black ice on untreated roads and sidewalks during early morning hours.

By Thursday and Friday, temperatures begin a noticeable climb, reaching the low 40s across much of the region, including Niagara Falls, Medina, and Jamestown. The warming trend accelerates into the weekend, with highs rising into the upper 40s to low 50s by Saturday and Sunday.

Travel impacts will be most noticeable during the morning commute through Thursday, especially along I-90 and Route 33, where refreezing can create patchy slick spots. Melting during the day followed by overnight freezing may continue to produce icy patches in shaded and rural areas.

Residents should remain cautious during early mornings but can expect improving conditions heading into the weekend. The warming trend will continue into early next week, with no significant cold air outbreaks expected.
