Buffalo, NY – Cold weather continues to grip western and central New York as the National Weather Service in Buffalo keeps Freeze Warnings in effect through Wednesday morning, with two separate rounds of subfreezing temperatures expected.

The first warning remains in effect until 9 a.m. Tuesday, followed by a second round from 9 p.m. Tuesday through 9 a.m. Wednesday. Affected counties include Niagara, Orleans, Monroe, Wayne, Northern Cayuga, Northern Erie, and Genesee—covering major cities such as Buffalo, Rochester, and Batavia.

Forecasters expect overnight lows in the upper 20s to near 30°F, coldest away from the immediate Lake Ontario shoreline, where slightly warmer air may persist. These temperatures could kill crops, damage sensitive vegetation, and burst unprotected outdoor pipes.

Officials urge residents to cover plants, wrap outdoor plumbing, and drain sprinkler systems ahead of the freeze. Daytime highs should moderate slightly by midweek, but another round of chilly air could follow later in the week.
