Buffalo, New York – Drivers across Western New York will face snow-covered roads by late Tuesday evening as a fresh round of lake-enhanced snowfall spreads inland, creating slippery conditions through Wednesday afternoon and longer across the Tug Hill.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Tuesday until 1 p.m. Wednesday for Chautauqua, Wyoming, Cattaraugus and Southern Erie counties, including Jamestown, Olean, Warsaw, Orchard Park and Springville. Snow totals of 3 to 5 inches are expected, with the heaviest accumulation across higher terrain. Areas closer to the Lake Erie shoreline will see lighter amounts.
Roads across the Southern Tier and elevated stretches of Route 219 and Interstate 86 may become snow covered overnight, reducing visibility during the Wednesday morning commute. Plow crews will likely focus on hilltops where snowfall rates are higher.
Farther north, Oswego and Lewis counties remain under a Winter Weather Advisory from 1 a.m. Wednesday until 7 a.m. Thursday. The Tug Hill Plateau could see 4 to 7 inches, making travel difficult along Interstate 81 and Route 12.
Drivers should slow down, allow extra travel time and report snowfall totals to the National Weather Service. Additional advisories could be extended if lake bands persist into Thursday morning.
