Buffalo, NY – Snowflakes whip off Lake Erie this morning as another winter pattern takes shape across Western New York. The air is biting, the wind brisk, and by Friday, snow will begin to build into heavier lake-effect bursts, bringing several inches of accumulation through the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, scattered snow showers continue today with highs struggling to reach 26°F. Gusty west winds up to 29 mph will make it feel closer to the single digits at times. By late Friday, conditions briefly clear before the next round of lake-effect snow develops Saturday.
Snow intensity is expected to increase Saturday afternoon and night, with localized totals of 4 to 6 inches possible near the lake and lower amounts inland. Visibility could drop quickly in snow bands, especially along I-90, Route 219, and the Buffalo–Cheektowaga corridor.
Sunday brings another round of snow showers and temperatures near 22°F, part of a larger Arctic blast pushing across the Great Lakes. Meteorologists warn this pattern could linger into next week, with more snow chances and bitter cold by mid-December.
