Buffalo, New York – Heat will grip western New York Tuesday as temperatures soar and humidity pushes the heat index toward 100°F, triggering health risks and operational slowdowns across the Buffalo metro area.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, a Heat Advisory remains in effect for Erie County and much of western New York until 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 24. Peak heat index values in the upper 90s are expected by mid-afternoon, especially along interstates like I-190 and I-290 where pavement intensifies the heat. Overnight relief will be limited as urban temperatures remain high.
Workers should limit outdoor tasks during peak hours, especially near construction zones and open roads. OSHA urges scheduled breaks and shaded rest areas. Stay indoors, drink fluids, and never leave children or pets in vehicles — even for a minute.
Tuesday’s high in Buffalo will reach 86°F under mostly sunny skies. Storms may develop late Tuesday night, but the day remains dry and intensely hot. Use fans, cooling centers, or air-conditioned spaces if available.
This is Buffalo’s first extended heat event of the summer, and it could be a sign of a hotter week ahead. Mild relief may arrive with scattered storms midweek.
