BUFFALO, N.Y. – Showers and thunderstorms will pulse across Western New York through Sunday, bringing periods of heavy rain that could slow travel and create localized flooding. The most widespread storms are expected through the afternoon, with clearing conditions tonight.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, thunderstorm chances climb as high as 85% in Dunkirk and 80% in Springville by late morning, with Buffalo, Rochester, and Batavia seeing a 65–75% likelihood of storms by early afternoon. The strongest storms may produce brief but intense downpours, especially along the Lake Erie shoreline and into the Southern Tier.
Drivers should prepare for sudden reductions in visibility and ponding on roadways, particularly along the New York State Thruway, Route 219, and I-390. Outdoor events and festivals may face temporary delays as storms roll through. Residents are advised to secure tents and outdoor items ahead of gusty winds.
By tonight, drier and cooler air pushes into the region, setting up a calmer stretch to start the workweek. Forecasters expect Monday to bring partly sunny skies and more comfortable conditions across all of Western New York.
