Buffalo, N.Y. – Western New York will face oppressive heat and humidity through Tuesday, with the most dangerous conditions arriving Monday as heat index values soar past 100°F in multiple cities.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, the peak heat will hit Monday afternoon, with the index projected to reach 103°F in Canandaigua, 102°F in Buffalo, and 104°F in Rochester. The heat index, a measure combining temperature and humidity, will remain elevated from midday Sunday through late Tuesday evening.

Cities like Batavia, Medina, and Warsaw will also flirt with triple digits. Outdoor workers, seniors, and those without air conditioning are especially at risk. Emergency officials urge residents to avoid strenuous activity during peak hours, drink plenty of water, and never leave children or pets in parked cars.

Roadways, sidewalks, and urban corridors will retain heat into the night, offering little relief. Cooling centers are expected to open in several counties. Residents are encouraged to check on vulnerable neighbors and watch for symptoms of heat exhaustion and stroke.

Extreme heat conditions are expected to persist until Tuesday night, with cooler, less humid air possibly arriving by Wednesday. Additional heat advisories may be issued.
