Buffalo, NY – A powerful spring storm is bringing heavy rainfall, strong winds, and potential flooding to western and central New York through Thursday. The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch until Thursday afternoon due to a combination of significant snowmelt and up to three-quarters of an inch of rain.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, widespread temperatures in the 50s on Wednesday will contribute to rapid snowmelt, increasing flood risks for rivers, smaller tributaries, and flood-prone areas. The greatest risk of flooding is expected late Wednesday night through Thursday. Ice jams could worsen conditions along area rivers, while low-lying locations face the highest threat of water accumulation.

Weather Impacts and Safety Precautions

Flood-prone areas should prepare for rising water levels.

Avoid travel on flooded roads—turn around, don’t drown.

High winds could reach 45 mph Wednesday afternoon, making travel hazardous along I-90 and Route 219.

Snow showers return Thursday night, with a chance of 1 to 2 inches of accumulation.

Five-Day Buffalo Weather Outlook
