Reno, Nevada – Warm, sunny days will give way to a chillier, unsettled weekend in western Nevada as light rain and higher-elevation snow approach by Friday night. Residents in Reno can expect highs near 77°F through Thursday before temperatures slide into the 60s by Saturday, signaling the arrival of a brief fall cooldown.
According to the National Weather Service in Reno, a 30 percent chance of showers begins late Friday, mainly after 11 p.m. Snow levels could drop from 8,200 feet to around 7,200 feet by early Saturday morning, affecting mountain passes such as Mount Rose Summit. Winds could also gust up to 30 mph, especially in open valleys and along U.S. 395.
Friday’s system will taper quickly, with clear skies returning by Saturday afternoon and a sunny, cool weekend ahead. Overnight lows will dip into the mid-30s in the valleys, prompting residents to protect plants and outdoor plumbing.
Another round of showers could return by Monday, with snow levels lowering to around 6,000 feet. Drivers heading toward the Sierra should stay alert for changing road conditions and possible slick spots overnight.
