Reno, NV – A Red Flag Warning has been issued for much of northern Nevada, including the Northern Sierra Front and the Western Nevada Basin and Range, on Monday, July 21st, from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. PDT. Fire weather conditions will be critical, with gusty winds and dry conditions that could fuel rapid fire growth across the area.
According to the National Weather Service in Reno, the warning includes counties such as Carson City, Churchill, Douglas, Eastern Mineral, Pershing, Storey, Southern Washoe, Western Lyon, and far Southern Lassen. Winds will be coming from the west-southwest, gusting up to 35 mph, with relative humidity dropping as low as 7%. These conditions elevate the fire risk, especially in areas with dry grass and vegetation.
Residents are urged to avoid any outdoor activities that may cause sparks, such as dragging trailer chains, target shooting, or driving on dry grass. Wildfires can start quickly in these conditions, so taking preventive measures is crucial to protect both homes and land.
This warning remains in effect until 10 p.m. Monday. Additional updates or warnings may follow if conditions worsen.
