Scottsbluff, Neb. – Severe thunderstorms are expected to impact western Nebraska through Sunday evening, with the potential for damaging winds and large hail across several counties.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 9 p.m. MDT for the following counties: Banner, Box Butte, Cheyenne, Dawes, Deuel, Garden, Kimball, Morrill, Scotts Bluff, Sheridan, and Sioux. Storms developing in the region may produce wind gusts over 60 mph and hail larger than 1 inch in diameter.

Communities including Scottsbluff, Alliance, Chadron, and Sidney should prepare for fast-moving cells capable of downing power lines and damaging property. Drivers along Highways 26, 385, and I-80 should monitor for sudden visibility loss and ponding on roadways.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, stay indoors during warnings, and ensure mobile devices are charged in case of outages. Local emergency management officials advise avoiding travel during severe cells and reviewing shelter plans.

The threat remains active through Sunday night, and additional warnings or watches may be issued if storms intensify.
