Cheyenne, WY – Travelers along I-25 and I-80 in southeast Wyoming and western Nebraska could face dangerous driving conditions beginning tonight as a Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect at 8 p.m., bringing blowing snow, poor visibility, and wind gusts up to 50 mph through late Saturday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, snowfall of up to 3 inches is expected across southeast Wyoming, with 2 to 4 inches possible in western Nebraska. The most hazardous travel is likely near Cheyenne, Laramie, and Sidney, especially in open areas where wind-driven snow may cause whiteout conditions.
Wind gusts between 40 and 50 mph could significantly reduce visibility and create drifting on major highways, particularly I-25 north of Cheyenne and I-80 east into Nebraska. The combination of snow and strong winds may lead to brief closures or delays.
Drivers are urged to avoid unnecessary travel, especially overnight, and to carry emergency kits. If travel is essential, allow extra time and check WYDOT and NDOT road condition updates.
The advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. Saturday, with more advisories possible if snow bands intensify or winds increase.
