Grand Rapids, MI – Lake effect snow will blanket western Michigan through Tuesday, creating dangerous travel conditions and bitter wind chills. Roadways, including I-96 and I-94, are expected to see reduced visibility and slippery conditions starting Sunday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Grand Rapids, snowfall will continue intermittently through Wednesday morning, with accumulations reaching 4–5 inches in some areas. Winds will create wind chills as low as -15 degrees Monday, potentially dropping to -25 in rural regions. Drivers are urged to use caution, particularly near US-131, where blowing snow could severely impact visibility.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 4 p.m. Sunday until 7 p.m. Tuesday. Local residents should prepare emergency kits for their vehicles, avoid unnecessary travel, and monitor road conditions. Rapid changes in visibility and icy roadways will make commutes especially challenging on Monday and Tuesday mornings.

Five-Day Forecast:

Monday: Snow showers likely; high near 8°F, wind chill -15°F. Accumulations of 2–3 inches expected.

Monday Night: Snow continues; low near 0°F, wind gusts up to 23 mph.

Tuesday: Additional snow; high of 9°F, wind chills -20°F in the morning.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy; high near 19°F.

Thursday: Slight warm-up, high of 28°F with snow flurries possible.
