Grand Rapids, Michigan – Slippery roads remain a concern across west central Michigan early Monday as lingering ice and light snow continue to affect the morning commute. While heavier precipitation has eased, untreated roads, bridges, and sidewalks remain slick, especially in rural areas and on secondary roads.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through mid-morning for Mason, Lake, Oceana, Newaygo, Mecosta, and Isabella counties. Additional snow accumulations are expected to stay under one inch, but a light glaze of ice is possible as freezing drizzle may redevelop after a brief break in precipitation.

Communities including Ludington, Baldwin, Hart, Fremont, Big Rapids, and Mount Pleasant are most likely to see lingering slick spots during the early drive hours. The greatest risk is on elevated surfaces such as overpasses and less-traveled roads that may not have been fully treated overnight.

Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra time to reach their destinations. Pedestrians should also watch for icy sidewalks and steps, where even a thin glaze can lead to falls.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve later this morning as temperatures stabilize, though motorists should remain alert for isolated icy patches until roads fully recover.
