Grand Rapids, Michigan – Drivers across parts of western and central Michigan face slick roads and strong wind gusts early Sunday as snow, sleet, and light icing continue through the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. Sunday for Mason, Lake, Osceola, Clare, Oceana, Newaygo, Mecosta, and Isabella counties. The system could produce 1 to 4 inches of combined snow and sleet, along with a light glaze of ice that may quickly freeze on untreated pavement.
Wind gusts may reach 45 mph, strong enough to blow snow across rural highways and potentially snap weakened tree branches. Communities including Ludington, Baldwin, Big Rapids, Reed City, Hart, Clare, Mount Pleasant, and Fremont are likely to see the most travel disruptions.
Roadways such as US-10, US-31, M-20, and US-131 may develop slick spots, especially on bridges and overpasses where temperatures hover near freezing.
Local officials urge motorists to slow down, leave extra space between vehicles, and allow more travel time Sunday morning. Hazardous conditions should gradually ease after late morning as precipitation tapers, though gusty winds may continue through the afternoon.
