Grand Rapids, MI – After a run of hot, muggy days, Western Michigan is bracing for another round of severe weather as thunderstorms return Sunday night, threatening damaging winds and localized flooding into the middle of next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, strong storms with isolated wind damage are possible north of I-96 today, with a higher risk for widespread severe weather building from Sunday night through at least Wednesday. The most dangerous storms are expected to bring heavy rain, gusty winds over 25 mph, and brief power outages, especially in Kent, Ottawa, Allegan, and Van Buren counties

Drivers should plan for slick roads and sudden wind gusts along US-131, I-196, and local highways during evening and overnight hours. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge mobile devices, and have a way to receive warnings if storms move through overnight.

Storm risks could persist into Wednesday, with additional updates expected as the next system moves in.
