Grand Rapids, Mich. – Summer warmth will hold strong in western Michigan through Friday, but residents should prepare for a wetter and stormier stretch beginning late Saturday and continuing into early next week. Highs will push into the mid-80s today before clouds and rain begin to take over.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, the first chance of showers arrives late Saturday afternoon, with scattered thunderstorms possible by evening. Storms may continue into Saturday night and linger through Sunday, with a stronger push of rain expected Sunday night into Monday.

Travelers along I-96 and U.S. 131 could face reduced visibility and slick pavement during heavier downpours. Outdoor events this weekend should have backup plans in place, particularly Sunday evening, when rain is most likely. Power outages cannot be ruled out if stronger storms develop.

Monday will stay unsettled with thunderstorms possible through the afternoon, before drier, cooler air arrives by Tuesday. Highs will fall back into the upper 70s early next week, with morning lows dipping into the 50s by Tuesday night.

Showers are expected to taper off by late Tuesday, with quieter conditions midweek. Additional weather advisories may be issued as storms develop.
