Michigan — Wind roars across western Michigan this morning, tossing light snow across roads and rattling power lines around Grand Rapids. Drivers may notice sudden bursts of blowing snow as temperatures slip toward freezing.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 11 p.m. EDT across Kent, Ottawa, Muskegon, and surrounding counties. Northwest winds of 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph are expected today. At the same time, a Winter Weather Advisory continues for Kent and Barry counties as snow develops.
Snow showers may become more frequent through the afternoon. Total snowfall could reach up to 2 inches in parts of the Grand Rapids metro. Gusty winds will push snow across open areas and highways, creating pockets of reduced visibility.
Drivers along US-131, I-196, and I-96 should expect changing road conditions. Wet pavement could quickly turn slushy during heavier bursts of snow. Blowing snow may briefly hide lane markings on rural roads west of Grand Rapids.
Temperatures fall through the day into the lower 30s, allowing snow to stick on grassy areas and untreated surfaces. Winds may also snap small tree limbs and cause isolated power outages across western Michigan.
Snow showers gradually diminish tonight, though patchy blowing snow may linger into the evening commute. Overnight temperatures drop near 16 degrees, which could refreeze wet pavement and create slick early-morning roads.
The broader storm system over the Great Lakes slowly pulls away Tuesday. Cold air lingers with highs near 25 degrees and a few additional snow showers.
By Wednesday, however, the region begins to moderate. Highs climb near 39 degrees, hinting at a shift toward milder spring weather later in the week.
