Grand Rapids, MI – The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids warns that scattered showers and thunderstorms developing across western and central Michigan this afternoon could bring gusty winds and small hail through Tuesday evening.
According to the NWS, the strongest storms may produce wind gusts over 40 mph and pea-sized hail, primarily affecting areas from Ludington and Muskegon down through Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, and Jackson.
Forecasters say the storms will move eastward through the late afternoon and early evening, with the potential for brief power interruptions and tree limb damage due to strong bursts of wind. Motorists should also be prepared for sudden downpours and reduced visibility as these showers pass through.
Cities under the advisory include Muskegon, Grand Rapids, Holland, Lansing, Battle Creek, Mount Pleasant, and Kalamazoo. While severe weather is not expected to be widespread, officials urge residents to move indoors when thunder is heard and secure outdoor furniture or decorations that could be blown around by gusts.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve after sunset as the storms weaken and move out of the area.
