Grand Rapids, Michigan – Wind gusts up to 45 mph will ramp up by midmorning Friday across western and south-central Michigan, creating crosswinds on major highways and the potential for isolated power outages through the evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. EST Friday for Ottawa, Kent, Ionia, Clinton, Allegan, Barry, Eaton, Ingham, Van Buren, Kalamazoo, Calhoun and Jackson counties. Southwest winds will increase to 15 to 30 mph, with peak gusts reaching 45 mph during the afternoon.
Cities including Grand Rapids, Lansing, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek and Holland will see winds strengthen steadily through the morning, with the strongest gusts likely between noon and 6 p.m. High-profile vehicles traveling along I-96, US-131 and I-94 may encounter difficult driving conditions, especially on north-south routes.
Tree limbs could be blown down, and scattered power outages are possible if gusts reach peak strength. Residents should secure outdoor furniture and loose items before winds increase Friday morning.
Winds are expected to gradually weaken after sunset Friday, but advisories remain in effect until 9 p.m. EST.
