Grand Rapids, Michigan – Wind gusts near 45 mph will sweep across western and south-central Michigan starting at 7 a.m. Friday, creating hazardous driving conditions through the evening commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, a Wind Advisory remains in effect from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday for Ottawa, Kent, Ionia, Clinton, Allegan, Barry, Eaton, Ingham, Van Buren, Kalamazoo, Calhoun and Jackson counties. Sustained southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph will strengthen through the morning, with the most powerful gusts expected during the afternoon.
High-profile vehicles along Interstate 96 between Grand Rapids and Lansing and Interstate 94 near Kalamazoo and Battle Creek could experience difficult crosswinds. Unsecured outdoor items may be blown around, and tree limbs could snap under repeated gusts. Isolated power outages are possible, especially where soils remain saturated.
Residents should secure loose objects and use caution while driving, particularly on exposed bridges and open roadways near Lake Michigan in Holland and Grand Haven.
Winds will gradually ease after sunset, but breezy conditions may linger into late evening. Additional advisories are possible if gusts trend stronger than expected.
