Oakland, Md. – Residents across the higher elevations of western Maryland, Virginia’s Highland County, and the Potomac Highlands of West Virginia should prepare for widespread frost early Thursday. A frost advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. until 9 a.m., with overnight lows dipping into the low 30s.

According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, the advisory includes Garrett County in Maryland, Highland County in Virginia, and Pendleton, Grant, and Mineral counties in West Virginia. Communities such as Oakland, Monterey, Franklin, and Petersburg could see patchy frost by daybreak, especially in sheltered valleys.

Gardeners, farmers, and homeowners are urged to cover or bring in sensitive plants before midnight. The cold snap may also impact late-harvest crops in the Potomac Highlands. Commuters should watch for frost on bridges and shaded back roads during the early morning drive.

The advisory is scheduled to expire at 9 a.m. Thursday as sunshine returns, but forecasters note that more cold nights are possible later this week, keeping frost risk elevated across the higher terrain.
