Baltimore, MD – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for parts of western Maryland and eastern West Virginia as the season’s first significant snowfall moves in late Sunday night into Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington.

The advisory is in effect from 4 a.m. Monday until midnight Monday night for western Garrett (MD), western Grant, and western Pendleton (WV) counties, where total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches are expected.

Heavier bands of snow could develop in higher elevations near Oakland, Elkins, and Snowshoe, with localized totals exceeding 6 inches possible. Lower elevations and valley areas may see lighter amounts under 2 inches.

Forecasters warn that travel could become hazardous on mountain passes and untreated roadways, particularly along U.S. Route 219 and I-68. The snow is expected to taper off late Monday night, followed by clearing and colder temperatures into Tuesday morning.

Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and monitor local forecasts for updates.
