Gray, Maine – Snow will begin piling up across western Maine and northern New Hampshire by 1 a.m. Monday, creating slick roads and bursts of near whiteout conditions before the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Gray, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday for southern Oxford, southern Franklin and southern Somerset counties in Maine, along with northern Carroll and Sullivan counties in New Hampshire. Total snowfall between 3 and 6 inches is expected, with wind gusts up to 40 mph. Narrow snow bands may develop at times, producing brief periods of moderate to heavy snowfall and rapid accumulation.
Communities including Bethel, Rumford, Farmington, Skowhegan, Fryeburg and North Conway could see untreated roads turn snow covered quickly. Routes such as U.S. 302, Route 16 through Crawford Notch and Interstate 89 near Grantham may experience reduced visibility during heavier bursts. Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects and snap small tree limbs, though widespread power outages are not anticipated.
Drivers should reduce speed and check conditions at NewEngland511.org before traveling. Snow tapers late Monday evening, but slick spots may linger overnight as temperatures drop. Additional advisories could follow if heavier snow bands persist.
