Fryeburg, Maine – Drivers across western Maine and northern New Hampshire should prepare now for snow-covered roads by 7 a.m. Monday as a steady round of snowfall moves in ahead of the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Gray, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday for parts of south central and western Maine and central and northern New Hampshire. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 5 inches are expected, with wind gusts reaching 35 mph. While snowfall amounts remain moderate, gusty winds could create areas of blowing snow and reduced visibility.

Statewide, the system will affect communities from Bethel and Norway to Skowhegan and Farmington in Maine, along with North Conway, Plymouth and Claremont in New Hampshire. Roads through Crawford Notch, Route 302 near Bridgton, and higher elevations in the Interior Cumberland Highlands may turn slick quickly. Blowing snow could lower visibility in open and elevated areas Monday afternoon and evening.

The greatest travel impacts are likely during the Monday evening commute as snowfall continues and winds remain gusty. Some tree limbs may snap under the weight of snow and wind, though widespread outages are not expected.

Drivers should allow extra time, secure loose outdoor items and check conditions at NewEngland511.org before heading out. Advisories remain in effect through 10 p.m. Monday, and updates will follow if snowfall rates increase.
