Berlin, N.H. – Residents across western Maine and northern New Hampshire will wake to a hard freeze Saturday morning, with temperatures plunging well into the 20s. The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Saturday, affecting towns from Rangeley, Kingfield, and Jackman in Maine to Berlin, Lancaster, and Colebrook in New Hampshire.
According to the National Weather Service office in Gray, Maine, frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and sensitive vegetation, bringing an abrupt end to the growing season. Unprotected outdoor plumbing could also be at risk in higher terrain communities such as Moosehead Lake, Coburn Gore, and the Mahoosuc region.
Farmers and gardeners are urged to cover plants, move potted items indoors, and drain or insulate exposed pipes before temperatures tumble overnight. The warning extends across both states, with valleys seeing the coldest readings in the low 20s and ridges holding closer to 28 degrees.
Outdoor recreationists in the White Mountains and western Maine lakes region should prepare for sharply colder mornings, with frost-covered roads and trails likely before sunrise.
The Freeze Warning remains in effect through Saturday morning, with additional cold expected again Saturday night.
