Paducah, KY – The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for southern Illinois, western Kentucky, and portions of southeast Missouri, warning of light snow, sleet, and freezing rain from Monday evening through early Tuesday morning.
The advisory covers cities including Paducah, Murray, Princeton, Owensboro, Mayfield, and Metropolis, with up to one inch of snow and sleet and a thin glaze of ice expected. The mix of precipitation is forecast to begin as early as 6 p.m. Monday in Missouri and continue eastward overnight into Tuesday morning.
Forecasters caution that bridges and overpasses will freeze first, creating slick and hazardous driving conditions for the Tuesday morning commute. Even minor icing can lead to dangerous travel, particularly on untreated roads.
The Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. Monday through 9 a.m. Tuesday, with impacts likely across the Purchase and Pennyrile regions of Kentucky and southern Illinois counties such as Massac and Pope.
Motorists are urged to drive slowly, use caution, and check updated road conditions via the National Weather Service’s Paducah office website (weather.gov/pah/roads) before traveling.
