Paducah, Ky. – Two cold fronts will keep Kentucky on weather alert through Saturday, bringing scattered thunderstorms, sharp temperature swings, and a much cooler weekend ahead. Drivers may face slick roads from passing downpours, though most areas will see less than a quarter inch of rain.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, the first front pushes in Wednesday evening and lingers through early Thursday morning. A second round of storms arrives late Friday and lasts into early Saturday. While rainfall totals will be limited for many, a few spots could see higher amounts during stronger cells.
The quick-moving systems will cause temperatures to bounce around. Highs in the low 80s Wednesday will fall into the 70s Thursday, climb back near 80 Friday, then settle into the upper 60s and low 70s for the weekend. Overnight lows will dip sharply, with parts of western Kentucky falling into the upper 40s to low 50s by Saturday night.
Residents should keep umbrellas handy and be prepared for brief downpours during commutes. Outdoor plans Friday night could be impacted by thunderstorms, though conditions will improve heading into Sunday.
More advisories may be issued with the second front, but for now, the heaviest impacts appear limited.
