Paducah, KY – A dramatic weather shift is on the way for western Kentucky as warm, breezy conditions Sunday give way to thunderstorms and a potential rain-to-snow change overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, temperatures will climb to around 74°F Sunday afternoon, with breezy south winds reaching 11 to 21 mph and gusts up to 37 mph across the region. Showers could develop between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., followed by a stronger chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4 p.m. across McCracken County and surrounding communities.

Rain becomes widespread Sunday night with a 100% chance of precipitation, and colder air arriving overnight may allow rain to mix with or briefly change to snow between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. Monday. While accumulation is expected to remain minimal, temperatures dropping to around 29°F could create slick spots on untreated roads.

Travel along Interstate 24, U.S. Highway 60, and U.S. Highway 62 near Paducah and nearby communities including Metropolis, Lone Oak, and Reidland may see wet pavement and gusty winds through Sunday evening.

Behind the system, much colder air settles in Monday with highs only reaching around 36°F, followed by clear but chilly nights early next week.

Officials advise residents to stay weather aware Sunday afternoon and evening as storms move across western Kentucky.
