LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A strong cold front will sweep through Kentucky tonight, bringing showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds to cap off a warm fall Saturday. The National Weather Service in Louisville says the main line of storms will arrive after midnight, with a few strong cells capable of producing damaging straight-line winds and an isolated spin-up tornado.
According to the NWS Louisville office, temperatures will reach the low 80s this afternoon under breezy southwest winds before the front pushes in from southern Indiana. Storms will begin across southwest Indiana and northwest Kentucky late this evening and move east through the night. Most areas will see rain taper off by mid-morning Sunday as cooler air settles in.
Wind gusts of 35 to 40 mph are possible even outside of storms, and scattered power outages could occur where stronger gusts hit. The severe weather risk is marginal to slight (Level 1–2 of 5), mainly along and west of I-65.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items and have a way to receive weather alerts overnight. Sunday will bring much cooler and drier air, marking a sharp shift to more seasonable fall conditions.
