Paducah, Kentucky – Scattered thunderstorms could spark flash flooding and damaging wind gusts across western Kentucky by Monday evening, threatening travel and outdoor plans ahead of the July 4th holiday.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, storms will begin developing late this afternoon and continue into the evening hours, with the strongest cells capable of producing locally damaging winds and very heavy rainfall. While the severe threat is low, isolated storms could briefly become intense, particularly along the I-24 and I-69 corridors.

Communities from Paducah to Hopkinsville and Mayfield could see downpours linger for over an hour, increasing the risk of flash flooding on low-lying roads and in urban areas. Drivers are urged to use caution during evening commutes and avoid water-covered roadways. The storm system is expected to clear overnight, giving way to drier, hotter conditions later this week.

The Fourth of July weekend looks mostly sunny and dry across western Kentucky, with highs climbing into the low 90s. A slight chance of rain returns Sunday, but no major disruptions are expected at this time.

More updates will be issued if storms intensify or flood warnings are triggered later tonight.
