Paducah, Kentucky – Storms and wildfire haze will complicate outdoor plans across western Kentucky Sunday, with gusty winds and isolated hail possible by the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, a layer of milky haze from Canadian wildfires will linger through early next week, staying aloft between 10,000 and 15,000 feet. Meanwhile, daytime heating will trigger scattered thunderstorms across the region Sunday afternoon, with some stronger cells capable of producing small hail and wind gusts over 40 mph.

Cities like Paducah, Murray, and Hopkinsville face a 30%–35% chance of rain, with slightly lower odds in Cape Girardeau and Poplar Bluff. Lightning and locally heavy rain may develop quickly, especially during the late afternoon commute or outdoor events.

Residents are advised to stay weather-aware and avoid travel during active storms. Keep phones charged and secure outdoor furniture or equipment that could be blown around by gusty winds.

The wildfire smoke is expected to remain elevated and should not significantly affect air quality near the surface. However, visibility could appear hazy, especially in the early morning.

Storm chances will taper off Sunday night, but additional rounds of showers are possible midweek.
