Paducah, Ky. – Western Kentucky is sweltering under a late-summer heat wave, with temperatures expected to climb near 99 degrees Tuesday and heat index values topping 105. A Heat Advisory remains in effect for the Paducah area until 7 p.m. Tuesday, raising concerns for dangerous conditions outdoors.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, clouds will build Tuesday afternoon, with a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms after 2 p.m. The storm threat increases Tuesday night, with a 50 percent chance of showers and storms before midnight and lingering showers into early Wednesday morning.

The stretch of dangerous heat is expected to ease midweek. Highs Wednesday will top out near 92 degrees, with slightly cooler and less humid conditions arriving by Thursday. Still, residents across McCracken, Ballard, and Livingston counties are urged to limit time outside during peak afternoon heat, drink water frequently, and avoid strenuous activity.

Drivers should also watch for slick roads during Tuesday evening’s storms, especially on I-24 and U.S. 60, where sudden downpours may reduce visibility.

More seasonal weather will return by late week, with highs near 90 Thursday and Friday under mostly sunny skies.
