Paducah, KY – A significant winter storm is set to bring freezing rain, sleet, and snow to western Kentucky, starting late Saturday night and persisting through Monday morning. Residents are urged to prepare for hazardous travel conditions as ice accumulations may reach up to a quarter of an inch, particularly near the Ohio River.

According to the National Weather Service, the most intense weather is expected Sunday afternoon through early Monday. Freezing rain will transition to sleet and snow, with wind gusts reaching up to 22 mph, compounding the risk of power outages and fallen tree limbs. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for several counties, including Paducah, Hopkinsville, and Wickliffe.

Temperatures will drop significantly, with lows reaching 17 degrees Sunday night and wind chills falling into the single digits. Local officials advise motorists to avoid unnecessary travel, especially on elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses, which are more prone to freezing.

Looking ahead, Monday brings continued cold with a high near 30, while Tuesday and Wednesday see clearing skies and lows dipping to 11 degrees. Residents should prepare for icy conditions on driveways and sidewalks, particularly as roads refreeze overnight.
