Dodge City, Kan. – Severe thunderstorms are expected to sweep into western Kansas late tonight, bringing dangerous wind gusts and potential hail to parts of the region. The National Weather Service in Dodge City warns storms will likely move into far western counties after 9 p.m. CDT.

According to the agency, damaging winds up to 60 mph are the primary concern, especially in areas west of Dodge City toward the Colorado border. Hail up to the size of quarters is possible in border communities, with the strongest activity expected closer to midnight.

Residents in towns such as Garden City, Scott City, and Tribune should prepare for possible power outages and travel delays. Drivers are urged to avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm activity, and those outdoors should secure loose objects to prevent wind damage.

While storms are expected to weaken toward early Sunday morning, additional thunderstorm chances may return early next week. Alerts could be extended if conditions warrant.
