Dodge City, KS – Residents across western and central Kansas should prepare for a wet and stormy night as showers and thunderstorms develop late Thursday and continue into early Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Dodge City.

Forecasters say the best chance for measurable rainfall will be across central and southern Kansas, where there is a 50% to 70% probability of rain totals exceeding a quarter inch by daybreak Friday. Rainfall intensity is expected to decrease farther west into extreme southwest Kansas.

The system is expected to move east overnight, bringing pockets of moderate rain and isolated thunderstorms. Drivers should remain cautious during early morning commutes Friday as wet roads and reduced visibility may create hazardous travel conditions.

While no severe weather is currently anticipated, localized downpours and brief thunder may occur in some areas. Drier weather is expected to return by Friday afternoon, with a gradual clearing trend heading into the weekend.
