Dodge City, KS – Rain showers are continuing to move south across western Kansas early Wednesday morning, bringing localized flooding risks in parts of the region.
According to the US National Weather Service in Dodge City, numerous showers with isolated lightning flashes were reported near Ness City around 4 a.m. CDT. The system is associated with a slow-moving upper-level low. Rain is expected to persist through sunrise and into the morning hours, but forecasters say the coverage should diminish later in the day.
Heavier rainfall could produce quick downpours of up to half an inch within an hour, creating hazardous conditions on local roads. An Areal Flood Warning remains in effect until 10 a.m. for portions of Trego County and northeastern Ness County, where low-lying areas may see water accumulation.
Residents in Dodge City, Ness City, WaKeeney, and surrounding areas should monitor road conditions during the morning commute. Motorists are advised to slow down, avoid flooded roadways, and allow extra travel time.
