Dodge City, KS — Heavy rainfall is expected to move across western Kansas this morning, potentially impacting travel and visibility. Areas south and east of Dodge City, particularly near U.S. Route 283, could see localized downpours between 5 and 8 a.m., according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

The NWS advises drivers to be cautious, as reduced visibility and water accumulation may affect early morning commutes. Those traveling should allow extra time and avoid flood-prone areas. Embedded rainfall could bring accumulations of up to two inches in some areas.

Showers are forecast to taper off by midday, with windy conditions and a high near 46°F taking over this afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 36 mph, creating additional hazards for high-profile vehicles. Tonight, conditions are expected to clear, with lows dipping to 34°F.

Looking ahead, Tuesday promises sunny skies and calmer winds, with a high near 50°F. Nighttime temperatures will fall into the upper 20s. By midweek, western Kansas will experience clear and sunny weather, with highs reaching the low 50s through Thursday.

Travelers should monitor weather updates and plan accordingly as Kansas transitions to a more stable forecast midweek.
