OMAHA, Neb. – Eastern Nebraska and western Iowa will hang onto summerlike warmth through Saturday before a stalled cold front delivers a much-needed cool down and increasing rain chances starting Sunday. Highs will remain in the upper 80s to low 90s through the weekend, with strong southerly winds gusting up to 40 mph Saturday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha, a shift begins Sunday as highs dip into the upper 70s and light rain showers develop, mainly in the afternoon. Rain chances climb Monday into Tuesday, with probabilities reaching 60% by Tuesday. Temperatures will tumble into the 60s for highs, with overnight lows in the 40s by early next week.
The warm spell may encourage late-season outdoor plans Friday and Saturday, but residents are urged to prepare for changing travel conditions. Winds may make driving difficult on north-south roadways such as I-29 and I-35, and early next week’s rain could slow commutes across Omaha, Lincoln, and Council Bluffs.
By Wednesday, drier weather is expected, but highs will remain in the mid-60s, far cooler than the weekend’s near 90° readings. Additional rain chances could follow later in the week.
