Western Iowa Weather Alert: Highs in the 90s and Thunderstorms Ahead

Des Moines, IA – Very warm and humid conditions are expected today over central and southern Iowa with highs in the 90s and heat index values in the upper 90s to low 100s. Conditions will be a bit cooler across northern Iowa.

According to the US National Weather Service in Des Moines, scattered thunderstorms are possible over northern Iowa tonight and Monday. A few strong storms may occur. Very warm and humid again tomorrow central and south, then much cooler the remainder of the week.

Today’s high will range from 85-95°F with heat index values between 90-102°F. Monday’s high will be 83-96°F with a heat index of 88-100°F. Thunderstorms are expected to bring some relief, with cooler and dry conditions by Tuesday. Highs on Tuesday will range from 72-78°F.

Wednesday will remain cool with a high of 74-82°F and a slight chance of showers in the northwest. Air quality remains good, with an index of 33.

Residents are advised to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities during peak heat, and monitor weather updates for potential thunderstorms and heat advisories. The heatwave is expected to subside by midweek, bringing much-needed relief to the region.
