Wayne, NE – The National Weather Service in Omaha has issued multiple freeze warnings across western Iowa and northeast Nebraska, warning of back-to-back mornings of frost and freezing temperatures that could damage crops and outdoor plumbing.
According to the Weather Service, a Frost Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Wednesday for Harrison and Shelby Counties, Iowa, followed by a Freeze Warning from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday. Meanwhile, Monona County, IA, and several Nebraska counties — Burt, Cedar, Cuming, Stanton, Thurston, and Wayne — are also under Freeze Warnings both Wednesday and Thursday mornings.
Meteorologists expect temperatures to dip as low as 30 degrees, with calm winds and clear skies allowing for widespread frost and freezing overnight. The warnings cover communities including Wayne, Onawa, Harlan, Tekamah, Hartington, and Missouri Valley.
The Weather Service advises residents to cover or bring in sensitive plants, insulate exposed pipes, and take precautions to prevent cold-related damage. These conditions mark the first hard freeze of the fall season, signaling a transition toward late-October cold across the region.
