Tampa, Florida – Brutal heat and a daily threat of thunderstorms are turning up the pressure on Tampa Bay this week, with heat index values soaring as high as 106°F and repeated downpours threatening to disrupt travel and outdoor plans. Residents should prepare for dangerous afternoon heat, pop-up storms, and the potential for street flooding, especially as the region heads into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered showers and thunderstorms will erupt after 2 p.m. Wednesday and again Thursday afternoon, with each day’s heat index peaking near or above 104°F. Rainfall could total up to half an inch daily, with highest storm chances from late afternoon through evening. Winds stay light but may shift as storms move through.

Wednesday: Expect partly sunny skies turning stormy by mid-afternoon, with high humidity and heat index up to 106°F.
Thursday: Isolated thunderstorms develop early, followed by more intense showers in the afternoon. Temperatures will feel near 104°F.
Friday: Another round of scattered storms and a slightly lower high near 94°F, but humidity keeps it uncomfortable.
Saturday: Expect repeated afternoon storms, especially late, with rain chances at 80%.
Sunday: The pattern holds with continued showers and storms likely, high near 94°F.

Street flooding, lightning, and brief gusty winds are possible with stronger cells. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor activity during peak heat and storms, stay hydrated, and keep devices charged in case of power outages. The active weather pattern will persist through Sunday, with additional advisories likely.
