Albany, NY – Drivers across parts of western Connecticut, the Hudson Valley, and southern Vermont should expect hazardous travel through Wednesday evening as heavy rainfall triggers flash flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, flood advisories remain active for Litchfield County, Connecticut; Dutchess County, New York; and Windham County, Vermont. Radar estimates show 2 to 3 inches of rain have already fallen, with another 1 to 2 inches expected before storms taper off by 8 p.m. in Connecticut and New York and 7:15 p.m. in Vermont.

In Litchfield County, communities including Torrington, New Milford, Kent, and Thomaston are already reporting standing water. Dutchess County residents in Pawling, Millbrook, and Amenia may also see minor flooding along local roads, creeks, and underpasses. The Vermont advisory warns of flash flooding in places like Bellows Falls, Londonderry, and Saxtons River, especially near smaller streams.

Travelers should avoid flooded roads and obey detours. Emergency officials continue to urge residents to “turn around, don’t drown”—most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Rain is expected to ease later this evening, but additional alerts may follow if slow-moving storms redevelop overnight.
