Colorado wakes up to damp pavement, low clouds, and a steady southwest breeze as Christmas morning begins unsettled across western parts of the state. Rain showers are already moving through the Grand Valley, creating wet roads early and setting the tone for a changeable stretch of holiday weather that stretches into the busy post-Christmas travel period.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, showers continue through today with a few rumbles of thunder possible by midday. Snow remains confined to elevations above 10,000 feet for now, keeping valley travel notedly wet rather than wintry. Daytime temperatures climb near 60 degrees, but gusty winds and persistent cloud cover keep conditions feeling cooler.

Rain chances dip briefly Friday before returning late Friday night and into Saturday. By then, colder air begins to filter in, lowering snow levels and increasing the chance for snow in the surrounding mountains. Travelers heading over Douglas Pass, McClure Pass, or toward the Elk and West Elk ranges should be prepared for slushy roads and reduced visibility at times.

Saturday night brings the best chance for a rain-snow mix near Grand Junction as temperatures fall into the mid-20s. While significant snow accumulation is not expected in town, light snow showers could linger into Sunday morning. Any moisture on roadways may refreeze, raising the risk of slick spots during early drives.

By Sunday afternoon, skies trend brighter but colder. Highs struggle to reach the upper 30s, and overnight lows plunge into the teens. Monday looks dry and sunny, though the cold snap holds firm, greeting returning holiday travelers with crisp air and winterlike mornings. More advisories could follow if snow chances increase late this weekend.
