Grand Junction, Colorado – A winter storm is expected to bring snow and colder temperatures to western Colorado beginning early Friday, with travel impacts likely to continue through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service office in Grand Junction, a shift away from the recent warm and dry pattern will allow snow to develop Friday and persist into Sunday. Most mountain locations are expected to receive at least 6 inches of snow, while several valley areas have a 20–50% chance of seeing 4 inches or more by Saturday afternoon.

Forecasters say snow will spread across much of western Colorado as colder air moves into the region, with accumulations increasing through the day Friday and continuing into Saturday. Snowfall is expected to be more widespread in the mountains, with locally higher totals possible in favored terrain.

The NWS warns that slick and dangerous road conditions are likely, particularly along mountain corridors and passes. Travel impacts are expected on Interstate 70 and highways including U.S. 40, U.S. 50, Colorado 160, and Colorado 550, where snow-covered roads and reduced visibility may develop.

Officials advise drivers to check road conditions before traveling, allow extra time, and be prepared for winter driving conditions. Delays or temporary closures are possible in higher elevations as snowfall intensifies.

The storm is expected to taper off by Sunday, but lingering impacts may remain on untreated roads and mountain passes. Residents and travelers, including weekend commuters and outdoor recreationists, are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts as conditions evolve.

Additional updates will be issued as snowfall totals and impact areas become clearer.
