Grand Junction, Colorado – Red Flag Warnings are in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday across much of western Colorado as hot, dry, and windy conditions create dangerous fire weather. Wind gusts up to 35 mph and single-digit humidity levels are pushing the region into critical fire risk territory, with new fire starts and rapid spread possible.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, the warning covers most of the Western Slope, including Mesa, Garfield, Delta, Montrose, and San Miguel counties. Relative humidity could fall as low as 4%, and winds from the southwest may exceed 25 mph throughout the afternoon. These conditions are especially hazardous near Grand Junction, Montrose, and Rifle, where existing fires could expand rapidly.

Smoke from active fires may reduce visibility on I-70 and U.S. 50. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, limit use of power tools, and secure trailer chains to prevent roadside sparks. Fire crews remain on high alert.

Red Flag conditions may return Wednesday and persist through the end of the week. Additional warnings are likely if weather patterns don’t shift.
