Grand Junction, Colorado – Dry heat and gusty afternoon winds are setting up a critical fire weather period across western Colorado, with temperatures soaring near or above 100°F from Moab to Montrose through Tuesday. According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, Fire Weather Watches remain in effect from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday as very dry air moves in and winds increase—raising wildfire concerns for much of the Western Slope.

Communities from Aspen and Rifle down to Vernal and Bluff are bracing for highs in the upper 90s to low 100s, while hot, breezy conditions could quickly dry out grasses and brush along I-70 and US 50. Local officials warn residents to avoid any outdoor burning and secure equipment that could spark. Power outages or smoky skies may occur if wildfires develop.

Travelers and outdoor workers should stay hydrated and be prepared for sudden changes in wind direction, especially near Grand Junction, Cortez, and Durango. If you see smoke or flames, report them immediately to emergency services and stay alert for evacuation notices.

The heightened fire threat lasts through Monday night, with more alerts possible later this week as the heat continues.
