Grand Junction, Colorado – Red Flag Warnings are in effect across western Colorado until 8 p.m. Saturday as strong winds and dry conditions increase wildfire danger from Aspen to Grand Junction.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, gusts up to 40 mph are expected through this evening in the Colorado River Basin, North Fork, and Gunnison Basin regions. Winds will begin to ease after sunset, but the combination of low humidity and unseasonably warm temperatures—reaching 87°F in Grand Junction and Moab—creates dangerous fire conditions across the area.
Highs in Aspen, Craig, and Durango will range from the mid to upper 70s, while Cortez, Montrose, and Vernal are set to hit the low 80s. Officials urge residents to avoid any outdoor burning, secure loose materials, and delay activities that could spark a fire. Visibility and travel could also be affected in open areas due to blowing dust.
Isolated showers are possible later today near northeast Utah and northwest Colorado as a weak front approaches.
Warnings remain in place until 8 p.m., and further advisories could be issued if dry conditions persist into Sunday.
